Antivirus Protection: Worms – The Most Dangerous

Computer Virus

Get the idea on the Worms

Among the three widespread malwares or rather the malicious software, of Viruses, Trojans and

Worms, Worms are the most lethal of all as they can carry out devoid of any human

intervention. They replicate just as the viruses do, however they are more self contained as they

don't require host program for proliferation unlike the viruses. Networks with several routers,

servers and clients are usually affected by worms. However, Worms cause around the same

damage like viruses do ranging from files deletion to corruption of programs. In the view of the

fact, that internet is more of a knot of networks; it is quite vulnerable to worm attacks.

How do they affect Servers and Routers?

Servers are controlling computers having massive storage capacity and stock up generic

resources which are usually shared by other depending PCs or clients within the network. On

the other hand, routers route the traffic within the network and are more like dedicated servers

having customized operating systems. When worms are unconstrained on the network, they

proliferate all by themselves gobbling up the CPU time parting little or no time for the remaining

programs to execute. This makes the network endlessly busy slowing down the network traffic.

Noteworthy worms

Payload is malicious software often carried along by worms. It could always be a spyware which

would sneakily monitor activities and actions of your PC or the hidden access points of the

network which is the backdoor installation program and could be used to steal data or spam

programs from your PC by hackers. Another fast scattering worm was discovered in 2004

namely, MyDoom. Emails stretched this by enclosing the message "Andy, I'm just doing my job,

nothing personal, sorry". The creator of MyDoom was by no means notorious; however, it is

supposed to be directed towards the company website SCO, i.e., Santa Cruz Operation, so that

the traffic of the website could be slowed down. Subsequently, this soon broadened to further

internet sites, shoddily slowing down the different networks which were part of internet as a

whole.

Ensure to keep your antivirus program running

The malicious Payloads accompanying with worms can lead to substantial breakdown in a PC

in any network. Hence, it is always mandatory for you to switch on the antivirus programs within

the network. If this is not followed, it is possible that data is transferred external to the network

or files are deleted cautiously.

De-Worming

There are various firewalls designed to organize and control network traffic which acts as a

shield to various PCs within the network by cloaking them well. They are rationally successful in

saving the PC from worm attacks. Worms are mainly scattered to networks with the help of

emails. Hence one should be extra cautious when opening emails from unknown senders or

getting hold of mysterious files as attachments, as the distribution is by means of this source.

No matter whatever precautions you take, at times your PC may be attacked by worms. If you

think your computer is showing symptoms of being sluggish slowing down the internet speed, or

re-boots often then it is high-time you scan the system with some antivirus software right away.

If your confined software doesn't help in de-worming, then you can always refer the internet for

the wide range of options available.
